The important work of NASCIO is conceived and executed by business and operating committees comprised of engaged members and supported by association staff. In addition to the Executive Committee, NASCIO has operating committees and ad hoc issues forums that report to this governance committee.

Audit Committee
The Audit Committee assists the Executive Committee in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities with respect to the annual audit of the association’s books and records, including selection of the independent auditor and oversight of internal controls over financial management and reporting. The committee is comprised of the secretary-treasurer, who is the chairperson, and two or more members of the Executive Committee appointed by the president.

Awards Committee
The Awards Committee is charged with providing guidance on categories, eligibility and scoring criteria for the State IT Recognition Awards. Committee members also serve as judges for the program, reviewing and scoring nominations to determine finalists and recipients in the ten submission categories.
Being a member on this committee is a great avenue to network with other members, gain knowledge of state technology projects through the review process and ultimately honor outstanding state technology initiatives.
Meeting Schedule: This committee is active between March and August and meetings are scheduled as needed. A call for volunteers is issued each spring.

Nominations Committee
The Nominations Committee develops an annual slate of officers and directors for presentation to the membership, and addresses leadership challenges for the association. This committee is made up of state members only. Members of this committee are appointed by the president, and the chair of the committee is the immediate past president.

Programs Committee
The objective of the NASCIO Programs Committee is to help ensure relevant and actionable programming that is in line with members’ priorities, in an innovative manner.
The NASCIO Programs Committee is a great avenue for state and corporate members to become more involved in NASCIO and work together to develop outstanding programming for the midyear and annual conferences. The rewards of involvement include networking among members and experiencing the successful fruition of the program development at the conferences. The committee provides guidance on session topics, speakers, Give Back partners, and experiential components.
A call for volunteers is issued each November and the committee is set for the following year. Meetings will be scheduled as needed.
The committee is limited to ~20 members and is appointed by NASCIO leadership to ensure equitable participation by both state and corporate members.

Enterprise Architecture & Governance
Effective governance requires an essential element – enterprise architecture (EA). Enterprise architecture and governance work together to provide the operating discipline to ensure traceability from strategic business intent to the necessary capabilities that enable that intent. This approach ensures that state initiatives are aligned with overall strategy and assists state CIOs in making sound decisions for managing information-related assets, business services, supplier relationships, workforce, and effective integration and interoperability across these resources. NASCIO’s Enterprise Architecture & Governance (EA&G) program is in place to assist state CIOs in effectively defining governance, and to apply holistic enterprise architecture discipline and best practices for evaluating, planning, and implementing projects, programs, and management initiatives to utilize technology and best business practices to enhance the quality of services provided to constituents and provide programs with demonstrable benefits in a fiscally sound way.
As in the past, the EA&G forum will plan its initiatives to support and align with the NASCIO strategic plan, the Annual State CIO Survey, the NASCIO Top Ten priorities, and with current issues as they arise.

Generative Artificial Intelligence
The Generative AI Working Group will be a platform to discuss relevant topics as new information comes out about generative AI. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to, use cases, data privacy risks, use by cyber criminals, enterprise policies and frameworks, governance, ethics, transparency and the possible positive and negative impact on the workforce. The expected format will include topical discussions and presentations from NASCIO members as well as strategic partners.

IT Accessibility
The IT Accessibility Working Group will be a platform to discuss relevant topics regarding the interpretation and successful implementation of the rule. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to, impact on existing state policy implementation methods, understanding the rule’s various mandates and exceptions, the importance of accessibility compliance and procurement methods relating to the rule’s third-party vendor requirements. The expected format will include topical discussions and presentations from NASCIO members as well as strategic partners.
