And still, other states lag behind. We heard from Gerald Young, Senior Research Associate of the Center for State and Local Government Excellence, and Leslie Scott, Executive Director of the National Association of State Personnel Executives (NASPE), on a look at where state government workforce has been and where it might go.

State CIO as Broker: A New Model

Multisourcing is emerging as the discipline for managing a complex and diversified portfolio of services and service providers.  These services are being employed to meet the continual evolving demand for creatively delivering government services through new channels with new functionality.   In this evolving circumstance there is the need for a new operating model the state chief information officer can employ to bring together agencies needs and demands with available emerging technologies and management disciplines.  This report opens the door to this discussion and explores the underlying forces of change that are driving the need for a new operating model.

Using Data as a Strategic Asset

Pew interviewed over 350 state leaders across the U.S. and reviewed relevant laws, documents, and policies in all the states to produce a report detailing five key actions states can take to promote data-driven decision-making:

• Plan ahead by setting up guiding goals and structures.
• Build the state government’s capacity to effectively use data.
• Ensure that quality data can be accessed and used by stakeholders.
• Analyze data to create meaningful information.
• Sustain support for continued data efforts.

This webinar provided a fresh understanding of the challenges facing state governments today, as well as insights on how they can capitalize on these key actions to promote data-driven decision-making.

Agile at Scale – Implementing the Discipline in State Government

Learn how Agile has been effectively deployed with the state of Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the state of Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. Effective deployment of Agile requires a strong commitment by the business and successful partnering and collaboration between the business and the IT organizations. Once up and running as the new norm for delivering solutions, there will be multiple Scrum Teams working in parallel requiring effective coordination and orchestration across the portfolio of solutions being delivered. This includes standards, best practices, data management and staging.
